This book is devoted to questions concerning the transcription of dialectical data, i.e. their conversion into equivalents in the standard language according to phonetic laws. It surveys the theory of how these data should be presented in scholarly works, the history of how this theory was developed, and the current situation. Attention is mainly devoted to how the dialectical lexis is presented in the academic Lietuvių kalbos žodynas [Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language], and there is a summary of the most important problems that lexicographers and dialectologists encounter. The greater part of this book consists of two lists: one of instances determined by the author of incorrect or doubtful transcriptions with concise commentaries and correctly transcribed equivalents and another of suggested interpretations of disputed instances. This work contributes to the scholarly accuracy of the data of Lithuanian linguistics

This book is the second volume of the computerized dictionary Lietuvių tarmės / Lithuanian Dialects, compiled on the basis of Lietuvių kalbos atlasas. Leksika [Atlas of the Lithuanian Language. Lexis] (Vilnius, 1977). It discusses the names for the artefacts and foods of everyday human life, and the dialectical forms are given for more than eighty words. Their distribution is presented in maps and descriptions. Words are declined and accented both on the printed page and in an audio recording. The etymology and usage of each word are briefly described, and literary sources are indicated. Audio recordings, ethnographic descriptions, and illustrations acquaint us with the purpose and use of everyday artefacts, the preparation of food, and the superstitions and customs connected with them
