Research activity of the staff of the Institute is multifarious. It is endeavoured not only to meet the needs of our society and contribute to the development of Lithuanian science, but also to conform to linguistic tendencies in the world and capacitate further scientific research. Therefore the researchers of the Institute cooperate with their foreign colleagues sharing their experience and working abroad; the Institute fosters research projects of Lithuanian as well as Baltic studies which are carried out in other countries and promotes activity of research centres of Lithuanian studies abroad. To make the language resources stored in the Institute more accessible to scientific society, informational and full-text databases are being prepared. As the basis of any scientific activity is permanent updating of data and facts as well as exchange of information and research experience, the Institute of the Lithuanian Language organizes scientific conferences, seminars, courses and welcomes specialists of linguistics not only from Lithuania, but also from all over the world. Researchers of the Institute focus on and orient their scientific activities mainly towards topical linguistic issues, that is why some of the researches is financed by the wherewithal of various programmes and projects. As this kind of financing can usually only be received by way of a contest, it stimulates a higher quality of research activity. |
