The Institute of the Lithuanian Language has published a new book titled “Taip šneka lietuvininkai” (As Prussian Lithuanians Speak It) by Adelė Judeikienė (Vilnius, the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, 2011; 228 pages). Everyone is kindly invited to read it!

At 2 p.m. on December 22, 2011, we will be extending our congratulations to the linguist Antanas Balašaitis, PhD, at the library of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language.

The afternoon event will be attended by members of the linguist’s family and his colleagues and will feature a presentation of the index of Balašaitis’s bibliography.

On November 29, 2011, the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (Gedimino Blvd. 3, Vilnius) is hosting an ANYKŠČIAI DAY. A speech on the idea of a festival of dialects inspired by readings of A.Baranauskas and the anniversary of K.Sirvydas will be delivered at a plenary sitting by Docent Jolanta Zabarskaitė, Ph.D.

On October 21 – 22, the Department of Lithuanian Philology of Kaunas Humanities Faculty of the University of Vilnius  and the Linguistic History and Dialectology Department of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language are hosting an international science conference called SOCIOLINGUISTIC DIALECTOLOGY: STUDIES OF BALTIC DIALECTS. The venue of the conference will be Kaunas Humanities Faculty of the University of Vilnius.

On 12/10/2011, Director of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, Docent Jolanta Zabarskaitė, PhD presented the project titled Baltic and Nordic Parts of the European Open Linguistic Infrastructure (META-NORD) to a sitting of the Committee for Information Society Development. Furthermore, Zabarskaitė introduced the attendees at the sitting to the key idea behind META-NET, a network forging the multilingual European technology alliance, its goals as well as the principle of comparing European languages on cluster basis.

At 3 p.m. on October 10, 2011, the Lituanistics Centre of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language will be hosting an event to showcase new publications.

The Institute of the Lithuanian Language has filed in Long-term Research and Experimental Activities Programmes to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences:

1.       Language history and contacts: fundamental and applied research of the evolution of language, writings and the Baltic onomastics.

2.       Language variations: fundamental and applied research of grammar, geolinguistics and sociolinguistics.

3.       Fundamental and applied research of the lexis, lexical semantics and terminology of the Lithuanian language.

At 2 p.m. on October 4, 2011, the library of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language will be hosting an event in memory of the linguist Saulius Ambrazas, PhD.
